''Individuality will always be one of the conditions of real elegance.'' Christain Dior.
I had a great natter with lots of you at the weekend around style post-COVID and one word kept popping up... individuality. It was like once we get the chance to step out for a meal again or hit the club (lol no chance I'm 35) we will have more confidence wearing what we like! I would like to attribute this newfound confidence to the fact we have spent the time learning about ourselves during lockdown.
Whether this is the case or not I think we always need to look back to step forward and making the comparison with previous significant times in our history. Let me talk to you a wee bit more about Christian Dior. I visited the Dior exhibition in Paris a few years back and was amazed at the history of Dior and his label. Here are some interesting facts for your hip pocket:
1. Dior's designs came as a revelatory shock, re-introducing glamour, femininity and luxury with full skirts, nipped-in waists and his trademark soft, 18th century pastels.
2. During World War 2 Dior dressed the German Nazi Officers Wives. He was also criticised for using too much fabric in his garments at the time.
3.At the age of 14 a palm reader predicted he would be penniless but women will be good to you and it is thanks to them you will succeed. This extraordinary prediction came true in 1947 as Christian Dior became the world’s best-known couturier.
4. By the mid-1950s, Dior’s business had become a much-respected empire, prompting him to hire the 21-year-old Yves Saint-Laurent as his right-hand man to aid with ever-expanding demands.
I am keen to watch and contribute to the unfolding of true style post-COVID and hope that the online beasts of modern fashion 'ASOS' and 'BOHO' don't make us all carbon copies of each other.
