Fitting can be tricky and I just think Hobbycraft may have cracked it! The new platform created by Hobbycraft - Made to Measure allows the home stitcher to download a pattern that is perfect for their measurements. I made this jumper in an evening after I measured myself to perfection.
At first I was a bit dubious of the concept and a bit daunted by the measurements that were needed to create the pattern! However, after I downloaded the app onto my phone a very clear and informative video took me step by step through the measurement process.
I would go as far as saying that any home stitcher will learn a thing or two from the measurement guide on the new hobbycraft made to measure app.
I choose to create the Sunshine Jumper - the perfect transition wardrobe piece from summer to autumn. It is also a great pattern for any breastfeeding mummy out there as the split in the front allows for ease of access for the baby.
After taking my key body measurements (I would advice some help when you are taking your measurements although I did do it myself), the pattern was automatically generated and I downloaded it as a A0 so I could get it printed from Plan Printing 24 (the cheapest online printer I have found).
I sourced my fabric from the fabulous Guthrie and Ghani online fabric store as it was the perfect colour for my Autumn wardrobe. Here's the link to the fabric - its currently on sale.
The cutting process was quick and easy with no stumbling over size lines or between ‘commercial’ sizes and awkward cutting. The jumper itself came together very quickly and took me around 4 hours from start to finish. I used my Janome Air Threader Overlocker for the entire construction along with some hand sewing to finish the jumper off.
